Tips & Tricks: Leverage Pivot Reports to Prototype License Pool Criteria Filter

Are you considering enabling a second Filter Criteria value to License Pool, but you are nervous about making the change? Well, you're in luck.  You can now leverage CoreView's new pivot table capability to create a real-time report that models what the breakout of users might look like with the additional Filter Criteria in place.  Here is how to do this.

First, navigate to the Analyze tab, as in the example below.

 

Next, on on the left side navigation panel, locate the menu entry for User Reports and then select the report named Users.

 

Once you have done that, and depending on the attribute you plan to use as the second Filter Criteria, you'll want to determine if you need to add a column to the report that reflects your choice for the second Filter Criteria. To do that, you look for the Columns button on the right side of the report, as in the example, underlined in red.

 

From here, you can add (or remove) any columns that are relevant to this report.  Once that is done, you can click on 'Actions', underlined in red above, just to the right of the Columns button.  You will see a menu from which you'll want to select Pivot, underlined in Red below.

 

After few seconds, the Pivot display will appear with an initial configuration.  To modify the Pivot's groupings, you look for the menu on the right side of the display, as in the example below and click on Fields.  

 

Once you click on the Fields button, the Fields dialog will display.  This is where you build the actual pivot.  

Here are some pointers:

  • To select a field for use in the pivot, click on the checkbox corresponding to the associated attribute. 
  • Similarly, the reverse will remove the field from the pivot. 
  • Fields can be dragged and dropped between Report filters, Rows, Columns and Values.

 

If you have ever created a Pivot Table in Excel, this will be familiar territory.  Once you are done, click on the gray Apply button to view your results.  Make you can make adjustments to the report by clicking on Fields button again and editing the pivot.  Once you are satisfied with the results, you can then save and/or export the results.  To understand more about how pivot tables work, please click on the link below.
